Out-of-Town Patients

Follow-up care is the most important aspect of undergoing Bariatric Surgery. Your body will be going through changes that must be monitored very closely as well as frequently. If you do not have these follow-up checks, you put your health at risk. We are dedicated to seeing each and every patient through the first two years of their surgery and we are always here to help thereafter.

We realize that many of our patients live far enough away from our clinic that traveling back for the many follow-up appointments can be nearly impossible. All patients must make plans to be in Lake Charles for the one week and two-three week follow-up appointments. After this point, we encourage you to continue to travel to Lake Charles for the follow-up, but alternative plans can be made.

In this case, you will need to have your General Practitioner (GP) complete the "GP form" included on this website. This form will allow your GP to continue to monitor your care. We do ask that you send in copies of your labwork for the entire two years of follow-up that you would ordinarily complete with us. If you live more than an hour away from our clinic and it will cause you hardships to make your follow-up visits, you must have your GP sign this form PRIOR TO SURGERY and return it to our clinic to remain in your chart.

Lap Band

For patients undergoing Lap Band, if you move away from the area and are not able to travel back to Lake Charles for your fills as needed, you will need to find a Bariatric Surgeon in the area to which you are moving. Over time, the fluid from a band (which is made of silicone) can dissipate. This means that over a year's time, if you have no fills, you may lose some of the restriction in your band simply because the fluid tends to migrate out of the band, which is natural and normal. The fluid is simple saline (salt water), so this is not a detriment to your health whatsoever. To ensure the continued success of your band, you will need to maintain a healthly fill level. Thus, once you find a Bariatric Surgeon in your new area, please contact us with his/her information and we will contact the Surgeon reagarding taking over the care of your band.
